Why You Need a Daily Routine Now More Than Ever
At this point in 2020, most of the world has spent the majority of the year living through COVID-19, an unprecedented (yes, we’re tired of that description too) and (hopefully) once-in-a-generation event. While many countries are nearing the end of the first wave and slowly returning to a semblance of normalcy, some countries do not see an end in sight.
Our homes have become our offices, gyms, restaurants, movie theaters, spas, and will continue to operate as such for the foreseeable future. We used to leave our homes to go to work. Once at work we might have gone out for lunch or to our office cafeteria. At the end of the work day we would go back home or to the gym. All of this physical movement would signal different parts of our day, and many of us no longer have that cue.
Why you need a daily routine
It’s important to create a routine, not for productivity purposes, but for your sanity. A routine can help you:
Mentally create boundaries between the different parts of your day that you used to be able to delineate with physical movement and separation.
Ensure you are making time for activities that allow you to recharge and nourish your mind and body.
Here are some activities to consider making a plan for in your daily routine:
Sleep
Meals
Movement/Exercise
Self-care
Entertainment
Connection with others
Summary
A vaccine for COVID-19 likely won’t be released and non-essential workers may not return to their offices until 2021. Although you may have made it this far in the global lockdown without a routine, this is now a long-term situation. Creating a daily routine can provide you with structure that can allow you to more purposefully focus on your well-being both physically and mentally.
