4 Tips to Create a Routine During COVID-19
We’ve previously written about why you should create a routine during this time, but let’s talk about how. Here are 4 tips to create a routine during COVID-19:
Create rituals
This could be as simple as starting every morning with a cup of coffee or tea, or marking the end of the work day by going for a walk. On the weekends, you might plan a fun, socially distanced activity.
Create physical boundaries
Dedicated spaces for the various activities that we now must do at home are a luxury for most, but changing your environment is helpful in marking the different parts of your day. If possible, try to avoid working in your bedroom in order to keep it as a resting space. If you need to work in your bedroom, try not to work in your bed.
Make time for quality sleep
It can be tempting to stay up later if you no longer have a commute, but getting quality sleep in this time of uncertainty and stress is more critical than ever. If you’re having trouble getting to sleep, you might find listening to sleep sounds helpful. Insight Timer is a free app and offers tons of sleep music and sleep meditations.
Incorporate self-care
Self-care is more than just bubble baths and a glass of wine (although these can definitely be considered self-care). It encompasses a multitude of activities that we might undertake for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Eating nourishing meals, going for daily walks, and meditating are all forms of self-care. Figure out what you need to do for your well-being and intentionally plan for it in your daily routine, so it doesn’t become an afterthought.
Once you’ve created your routine, it’s helpful to keep track of your key activities until you get used to them. Sign up for our mailing list and get our free, printable Self-Care Checklist. It’s blank, so you can customize it to your routine.
